apparently three bombs have gone off in Bangkok. I just learned of this when I walked into a pub (what else would I be doing on New Year’s Eve?) and it was on the TV. According to the bartender (not that I believe him), they were far from us. That is possible due to the fact that Bangkok is a VERY large city.

I am fine and hope to continue to be fine til I leave tomorrow morning

After just about a week in Bangkok, it’s time to move on. I’ve had a lot of fun sitting in parks and reading books, exploring different parts of the city and relaxing (a few other things too).

I’ll be attending the huge New Year’s Eve party at Central World Plaza this evening and then returning to my hotel to attempt to get a bit of sleep, before my way-too-early-for-holiday train leaves tomorrow morning. I’ll be spending the next week going north, visiting a few different places on the way.

I don’t known when I’ll be on the internet again, so I’m signing off from Free Internet Place for a while. Bye for now.

In case you’re wondering about the weather, we’re down to 30C, but will be in the 33C to 34C range starting tomorrow. Life is good!

Bausche and Lomb contact lenses for 200 THB (4.50 Euros). I bought one pair yesterday and if they hold up for the rest of my trip, I’ll buy a few more before I return.

In Germany I was quoted more than 200 Euros for 1 pair.

I won’t (eventually) be making a long-winded post about today (unlike other days) due to the fact that I haven’t really done anything.

- Woke up late – my hotel has a movie channel in English, which brought out the movie-junkie in me. I was up til 4am watching bad movies.

- Had an eye exam (4.50 Euros – which is 5.50 Euros cheaper than my co-payment in Germany) and ordered new glasses (30 Euros) that I actually like, as opposed to ones that are the cheapest (which I currently have and hate). They’ll be ready tomorrow. It’s great to be in a place where I can afford nicer things.

- Sat in a park and read my book for a few hours.

- Walked around and watched Bangkok happen.

I’ve had such an uninteresting day that I’ve only taken five photos (unlike yesterday). I’m at FIP again and plan on staying and watching football and rugby on the tellies here for a while before venturing out to do nothing this evening. Perhaps I’ll hit up one of those open air (with a roof) movie pubs or something. I don’t know. Whatever comes up.

Weather check (just because I can): Status quo. It’s 32C and sunny here today.

again. Popped in for an orange juice. FIP now has free wireless access, but I can’t be bothered to drag my laptop here.

Notes:

-Good flight;
-Great to be back in paradise again;
-I still love totally Bangkok;
-taking it easy today while my body readjusts to warm weather and tons of pollution;
-It’s already 28C and is going to up to 31C. Hope it’s snowing in Germany :)

I’ll be heading to the airport in a couple hours and might not be online or a few days, so I thought I’d wish those that celebrate it a Merry Christmas.

I’ll be checking in from the other side of the world soon.

News from Heathrow: Airport Dash as the fog lifts

Fog.

Thanks, London. Taken in Cologne about ten minutes ago.

No? Today is the second day (here’s an article about it if you haven’t heard). Guess where I’ll be flying out of on Sunday evening. Yep, Heathrow. Luckily, I’ll be on a long haul flight and those are actually taking off, so everything should be fine, shouldn’t it?

Not really. I have to fly into Heathrow from Duesseldorf, and intraEuropean flights are being cancelled or very delayed.

The flight was cancelled yesterday and today, so I called the airline and told them that if worse comes to worse, I could take a train to London and catch the flight there and was then told that the conditions of my ticket prohibit the change of country of origin – and that I’d just have to wait for another flight at the Dusseldorf airport. Of course, there aren’t many DUS – Heathrow flights per day so that means I’d have to wait another day or two IF they were able to rebook both flights.

Merry Christmas to me.

Lawmaker stands firm on Quran criticism
Yahoo News
By SUE LINDSEY, Associated Press Writer

A congressman said Thursday that he will not retract a letter warning that unless immigration is tightened, “many more Muslims will be elected” and use the Quran to take the oath of office.

“The Muslim representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don’t wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran,” he wrote.

The person who said this REPRESENTS the people of Virginia! How awful is that?

My hotel is unknowingly letting me use their wireless internet, so I’ll be around for a few more days.
